The SJ-R.COM - Bernard Schoenburg Column offers up Rod's why on the prayer breakfast.

"The prayer breakfast was scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, but with the time it took to get a call to Daley, it turned out the governor arrived in Springfield about noon. Later in the afternoon, he had a news conference at the Statehouse, saying he opposes a Chicago casino this year and would veto any legislation that would authorize one.
'We felt it was critical to, you know, stop this Chicago casino immediately, and ... the whole logistical issue was difficult,' Blagojevich said Wednesday. 'We just had to get the mayor while he was going to France before I was going to announce my position, and it was critical for us, I thought, to get the position out before this process here (in Springfield) starts running, with the Chicago casino.'"

-- FYI, you can make overseas calls from Springfield. I have called Springfield from Germany and I suspect the reverse is true. He seems to have a lot of 'logistical issues' be they funerals or meetings.
