MSNBC is reporting that FEMA will not pay to replace the dead fish at the Audubon Aquarium in New Orleans (OneMan has visited it in the past and highly recommends it) because the staff went out and caught the fish instead of paying for fish that were the exact same age and size....

FEMA would have been willing to pay more than $600,000 for the fish if they had been bought from commercial suppliers. But the agency is balking because the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas went out and replaced the dead fish the old fashioned way, with hooks and nets. That expedition saved the taxpayers a half-million dollars but did not comply with FEMA regulations.

If I were president (all feel free to shudder) I would try and create a new cabinet level post called Secretary of Stupidity who would have a staff of about 10 people I trusted, who would review stuff like this then send me a list of stupid stuff done due to government regulations or laws that I could executive order away on a case by case basis.
