Looking at the HB0255

Still trying to make the numbers work....

Lets use South Datoka as an example since they have about a 50/50 spilt.

They had 8,969 terminals in FY 2008 with a new Machine income of $224,661,209, so lets figure out net revenue per machine ($25,048)... So the state gets $12,524 (the numbers don't quite match because they don't show the .5% the state lottery gets to cover operating costs)

In FY 2007 (same document as above) they had 8,859 maches and at net machine income of $222,815,702, so net revenue per machine of $25,151 with a state cut of 12,575.

In FY 2006 (same documeent) 8,716 machines $221,535,661 in net machine income or $25,417 per machine with a state cut of $12,708.

So using SD numbers in the best of the last three years so a machine revenue of $12,708
to hit a 375,000,000 you would need 29,508 machines running for a full year to hit that number of machines in a year you would need to deploy about 81 machines a day every day for a year.

Lets be a more optimisitc lets assume machine revenue for the state of $15,000 per machine, in that case you need 25,000 machines to hit that number in a year you need to deploy about 68.5 machines a day for 365 days.

To hit the optimistic number of $540,000,000 in state revenues at $15,000 per machine you would need to have 36,000 machines.

It gets more interesting....

I blogged a little while back about North Central College's new performing arts center and the impact I thought it would have on the Paramount...

Well a couple of things have come into play since I blogged about that.

First, the Naperville Sun had a story about a new performning arts center proposed for Naperville. That would be bigger and newer than the paramount.

Secondly, the director of the Paramount Theater resigned effective July 31. Read the Beacon story for more details.

Suffice to say if the bigger Naperville facility happens (big if), it would have a huge impact on the Paramount, I think it would end the 'Broadway' shows coming to the Paramount. If you were mounting a road tour of Oklahoma, where would you go. Downtown Naperville or Downtown Aurora?

I hate to say I told you so but...

I am having a hard time finding the post, but back when the city was so hot to get rid of the drive-in I pointed out that Aurora didn't have much that didn't now exist in a cleaner/newer form in Oswego or Naperville.

The one thing Aurora does have is the Paramount, the premier performing arts venue in the Western Suburbs. Well I just got the schedule in the mail for the North Central College Fine Arts Center. The paramount may have more 'names' I would have to say that in it's first year NCC has more 'art' by far. More Jazz (I generally counted on COD for local Jazz anyway), more dance, more opera that the Paramount.

The Paramount may have had David Sedaris but NCC is having Sarah Vowell...

I guess my point on this is more that as the center at NCC matures it will end up getting more and more of the interesting stuff over time and reduce the quality of stuff that is at the paramount.

I hope I am wrong but if you are a touring show where are you going to perform, downtown Naperville or downtown Aurora.

Been a long weekend...

Not in the good way either, everything is basically cool. Just a ton of stuff going on.

So the reaction today to Lisa deciding to run for AG again...

Sort of reminded me of the episodes of MASH when they would Bug Out...

Game changer.

Because you know we didn't have enough chaos and confusion in Illinois politics and government

For the first time in about 8 years or something...

Didn't walk a 4th of July parade, hung out with my folks and the family I their summer place.

Was rather nice.

Still no budget and the Trib is reporting that people who give money to U of I try and wield and sometimes do wield influence. Still looking forward to hearing if anyone from the Trib ever dropped a dime to make something happen at U of I.

Also a bit confused about the whole Palin thing, Governor people resign to become cabinet members, ambassadors or hold different elected offices. They just don't quit so they can go around the country giving speeches. Sorry.

Caught Adam Andrzejewski at a meet the candidate thing tonight.

Well here is his website.

Overall I was kind of impressed. I was looking to see if he came across as creditable and he did. He answered some policy questions with answers with more detail than you would expect someone to use at this point in the game.

I am going to try and listen to everyone running before I make up my mind but he did a decent stump speech and answered questions for over an hour. The crowd was a combination of Ron Paul fans and libertarians to some degree so not all of the questions where the ones you would hear at a rotary javascript:void(0)club. He handled the questions well and came across as generally creditable, kind of what he really needs to do with groups at this point. At one point the questioning got a little back and forth (on drug policy) and he was able to deal with that as well.

Got the impression he is going to start doing some radio ads soon.
